Any high-risk factor when present in the mother which may affect her or the baby during pregnancy and delivery is called a High-risk pregnancy. It is essential to ensure that we have both lives being safe at all times.
It includes problems in the mother like anaemia ( low Haemoglobin) , high blood pressure, Diabetes, obesity, pre-existing medical diseases, hypothyroidism, previous Caesarean etc.
There could be problems with the foetus (baby) like twins, fetal growth restriction, oligoamnios (reduced water levels), malpresentation etc. All these pregnancies require close monitoring and feto maternal surveillance to expect the best outcome.
High risk pregnancy does not mandate a Caesarean but requires close monitoring and earliest intervention when required in a well-equipped set up both during pregnancy and labour.
